  • One of the Most Fun Vehicles We Have Owned

If you’ve never owned a GTI, you are missing out. After owning a Camaro and Corvette (I still own the Corvette), the GTI is a breath of fresh air. Cool to look at, go-cart handling and performance, this car puts a smile on your face every time you drive it. A great car for anything from commuting to road trips to simply opening the windows and panoramic sunroof, turning up the tunes, and mashing the accelerator. Under real-world use, car returns an average of 25-26 mpg in town and up to 39 on the highway, though the average there is about 37. Quality of the interior is unmatched by anything this side of a BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus. The vehicle is always garaged and holding up well over the 5 years and 82,000 miles it has been in service. We did have to replace the water pump (covered under our extended warranty) and have had a few minor issues with the push-button start and window controllers but, other than that, there have been no major issues. Probably going to pass the car along to our teenager when he heads to college in a couple of years, but are seriously considering replacing it with another one; it has been that much fun and a pleasurable owner experience. Would definitely recommend this car to a friend. ** As an added bonus, all Volkswagens now come with a 6-year/72,000 mile warranty from the factory. (Should cover your first 4-5 years of ownership.)
  • Performance for a small price...

I am a mature adult but I have spent my life around performance and sports cars. A few years ago after owning a very capable 4 x 4 Toyota FJ cruiser I opted to get a GTI for around town, fuel economy and just plain driving fun while keeping the Toyota for ruggedness. The GTI offers the best balance performance engineering and versatility on the market. The fit and finish are impeccable. The only complaints I have is thats the infomat screen was very dated which became upgraded the following model year. It is also virtually impossible to parallel park next to a curb without scuffing the rims due to the low profile tires and rim design. And I consider myself and excellent urban parker. This car fits the bill for people who appreciate performance engineering but dont want to shell out the money for an Audi or BMW. An extremely high comfort level and interior finish for the price range.

I've owned this car for about 5 months. It's my daily commuter and I still find myself making up reasons to run an errand so I can get behind the wheel. I waited for the 2016 in order to enjoy Apple CarPlay and USB port. However, a software update was needed and after 4 months it's finally operational. That's been my only complaint in regards to reliability. This car will put you back in your seat, but in a very civilized manner. Freeway on ramps are my best friend. Passing is a breeze and the go-cart like feel during cornering is a pure joy. This is not the car for you if you want every bump and road seam to be sucked up because the car can be a little bumpy, but nothing close to punishing. If you truly enjoy being a "driver" than there is no other car on the road that is as well balanced and economical as the 2016 GTI. Some features I love are the backup camera, keyless entry/start, HID lamps, Apple CarPlay, versatility of the hatch, plenty of legroom for rear passengers, driver's assist (saved me more than once from a collision), cool interior lighting, bolstered seating, plenty of torque, superb braking and the overall handling during cornering. Some suggestions would be a power-hatch, foldable side mirrors with auto-tilt for backing up and a chirp instead of an annoying honk when you lock it with the remote (i.e. Audi). This car is just plain FUN! I read every review and watched every video I could find when researching. The EXPERTS who compare cars everyday for a living agreed this was THE BEST car on the market for 2015. For 2015: North American Car of the Year. Autoweek "Best of the Best" car. Automobile 2015 All-Star. Car & Driver 10 Best. Motor Trend 2015 Car of the Year. Yahoo Autos Car of the Year. NO car will give you absolutely everything your heart desires, but this hot hatch comes closest to anything I've driven in my 30 years.
